Women in Sport (who’s research I use constantly) and Leeds Beckett (where I’m doing my professional doctorate) have launched a task force to understand and advocate for coaching.
As part of this they’d like all coaches (regardless of gender) to fill in the survey to help understand the coaching landscape.
This is a call to action. Please fill in the survey and have your say on coaching.
Below is some more information from Women in Coaching:
As the summer of sport builds pace a familiar question lingers of why there so few women in coaching, from community and particularly at elite level.
We know the challenges are deep rooted: societal attitudes, gender bias, hostile cultures, unequal access to opportunities, an impossible work-life balance.
But we don’t yet fully understand the extent of these issues – or how they impact different women in different ways.
To make a change there needs to be a united, strategic approach that works at scale and at pace – across all sports, all organisations that will benefit everyone – men and women.
Women in Sport are leading a Women in Coaching taskforce that together will establish a shared understanding, create a shared narrative and advocate for the right solutions to transform coaching.
This is not just about increasing the numbers of female coaches. It’s about us all building a shared understanding that leads to lasting change and ultimately, better environments to support more women.
I’m contacting you to introduce this taskforce and the first independent national survey of its kind, created to uncover what’s really happening inside the coaching workforce.
This survey has launched this week, and the crucial element is that we need to hear from ALL sport coaches – both men and women, from diverse backgrounds, and from a variety of sports. Every perspective matters, and every voice helps us build a complete picture to drive change.
