Meet Frankie. She plays rugby and is active on social media promoting rugby helping to spread the word using her passion for the sport. Frankie tells us what she'd like coaches and clubs to know.
Thank you for sharing - my daughter is in P3 and has been playing since P1. She is one of only two girls in her team (and for about half this season, she was the only one). Similar to you, she was the instigator of going to rugby, having seen Scotland women playing. She actually got me into coaching because I joined the team about 6 months after she did.
My daughter is a powerful advocate for girls rugby already - she wrote a "why girls should play rugby the same as boys" persuasive piece in school the other day - and has unofficially designated herself as the welcoming committee for new girls in the micro rugby team. The two P2 girls we have hang on her every word (I am going to stop going on about her now - I have become one of those dads who goes on and on about their kid!).
People like you are the inspiration for wee girls like my daughter coming up. I agree completely with what you are saying about women players taking their position as role models seriously. We were at the Scotland-France game the other week and the players spent over an hour after the match signing things, taking selfies and talking to the girls that were clustered around.
Thank you so much for sharing my thoughts and and feelings. I love it
