Make your clubhouse into a community hub
Level up your rugby club into the heart of the community
Your rugby club is already at the heart of a lot of lives. Not just players, but coaches, referees, parents, families, volunteers.
There are ways to use your clubhouse and its facilities to further benefit your existing members.
Imagine your clubhouse being a space that welcomes and organises different community events. This is a way of enriching current members and potentially gaining new ones.
Try these two ideas (and adapt for your community needs):
Workshops
In a recent podcast, I spoke to Holly Ingram. Holly, following her own experiences, organised a female health night.
She invited current members of the club and external groups, including a local runners group.
You could host a one-off event or a regular series of events at your club. There are a range of different topics that you could host workshops on.
These could include mental health, pelvic health or other topics that can benefit your community.
You can organise events at a weeknight or during a weekend when existing members are at the club.
It’s a great way to enhance the education of players and coaches. Promoting the events on local Facebook groups, distributing flyers or inviting other local groups can ensure your events have an even broader reach and impact.
Hosting more than rugby
When I discuss pelvic health and menopause with people, I’m often told that yoga and Pilates are beneficial.
Consider hosting a one-off or regular class of yoga or Pilates. This could be a session that takes place when pitches are unplayable.
It’s a great way to still get a team together. In advertising the session to your team, mention its benefits for pelvic health or menopause. This can help reduce the taboo around female health topics.
If you’re running a one-off session for your team, you can bring in an external instructor or choose a YouTube channel to have everyone follow.
Hosting regular sessions, with an external instructor, can also bring different people to your clubhouse.
Try hosting it at different nights to your adult teams’ training sessions so that more people can attend.
Did you know there’s a subscription option for Coaching Care Creativity? Nothing is behind a paywall so your subscriptions or coffee clicks can help keep the content going. The subscriptions are £5 a month or £50 for the year. You can also buy me a one-off coffee for just £5.
