Reading list
I'm taking a look at what's been published so far and selecting some of the standouts that I'm re-reading ahead of the season
“Everyone needs to take a break!” That’s what my Dad just messaged me as I was planning the next block of articles to hit your inbox.
So I’m following Dad’s advice. This Monday, instead of a new guest article, I’m taking a quick pause to reflect and highlight some of my favourites (so far).
There’s been lots that I’ve found interesting, so it’s important to return to them, especially in the offseason/preseason period of coaching.
Player welfare:
Stress urinary incontinence in female rugby players - According to a recent study, 4 in 10 female players leak urine when playing rugby. The researchers explain the study and what needs to be done. This article sheds a light on a taboo issue within rugby and how coaches can help create a supportive environment.
Coaching contact:
Coaching the Tackle in Women's Rugby - Irish international Kathryn Dane is doing amazing work with tackling and women's rugby. Her latest is a survey looks at how coaches view contact training within the female game.
Coaching junior players:
Listen to Players - Meet Frankie. She plays rugby and is active on social media promoting rugby helping to spread the word using her passion for the sport. Frankie tells us what she'd like coaches and clubs to know.
Connections with parents:
Developing good parent-coach relationships - Ensuring parents and coaches are connected can help players enjoy themselves and learn. Richard Shorter, founder of Non-Perfect Dad, explains more.
Female referees:
Experiences of a female referee - Ellie Bilton has refereed some of the matches I’ve coached at. It’s important that this sport is inclusive in all aspects. Ellie discusses her experiences of refereeing and what skills are needed.
