Try at training: Kick, receive, attack!
Try this kicking skill game at training to work on kick chase and attack
Try this game. It works best as a small skill game scheduled early on in your training session or before a larger activity.
Players get opportunities to work on their restarts, kicking, kick chase, receiving kicks and attacking from kicks.
Here’s how to set up the activity:
Create a small playing area.
This activity works best when it’s small numbers, such as 3v3
If you have larger numbers, set up multiple playing areas
If you have large numbers, you can also set up a larger activity and then take 6 players at a time into this skill game.
One team starts with the ball, they kick off to their opponents
Whichever team gains possession has to score in 4 touch-tackles or less.
On the 4th touch tackle, if they’ve not scored, the game resets. The defenders win that round
If the attackers score before the 4th touch tackle, the game resets. The attackers win that round.
It’s a simple activity. However it contains opportunities for players to develop alot of skills with a high number of repetitions.
What language you use and what skill you emphasise can change depending on the focus of your session.
If you’re focusing on defence, you can work on the kick chase. If the emphasis is on attack you can concentrate on seeing if players can quickly score when receiving a kick.
