World Cup 2025: The voice of the girl
Frankie is known as That Rugby Girl on social media. Frankie (and her Dad) are passionate about women's rugby. She talks about her World Cup experiences and what she thinks the legacy of 2025 will be
The World Cup has been really exciting with lots of twists and turns. I’ve loved seeing all the coverage and all the fans at the games. It’s been amazing.
My World Cup content has been doing really well. I’m having a lot of people engage that have never been interested in rugby before. I’m also getting comments from people that are learning about rugby from my content, which is amazing.
I’ve been speaking to fans from all over the World at the matches. However, I’ve been unable to interview any players or coaches which has been disappointed as I would have loved to give viewers the opportunity to get to know them.
I get to spend most of my time talking about rugby, which I love, whether it’s the rules or skills, or match previews and reviews. I also get to talk to lots of other rugby-loving people from all over the World.
Making the content also gives me a chance to be creative with no pressures, like school. My Dad helps me alot, which is great as I get to spend alot of time with him.
The World Cup hype and legacy
In the build up to the World Cup, I loved seeing all the excitement that was generated online in the run up to the start of the tournament. It was amazing to see the ticket sales go mad before it had even started.
It was great to see all the grassroots clubs planning events and looking to bring the whole club together.
I went to the opening game in Sunderland, which was unreal. It was everything that is brilliant about women’s rugby.
I then went to York for Canada vs Fiji and then onto England v Australia in Brighton. I also went to both quarter-finals in Bristol.
At the Brighton match, I had loads of people come up to me and say how much they love my content. They showed me lots of support, which made me feel really special.
I’m going to the final as well, which I’m really excited about.
I think the legacy of the World Cup will be showing that everyone is welcome is women’s and girls’ rugby, and that it deserves to be respected. The product being produced in incredible.
In order to make the most of the legacy, we need to get the message into the community that girls rugby is amazing, and every girl should give it a go.
Rugby needs to be more available to girls. We need to put it into more schools more and expose more girls to the sport.
