Rugby and a vaginal prolapse
Recently, I spoke to Holly Ingram. Holly shared her journey of recovery after a vaginal prolapse. In this extract, she gives insight into a workshop she organised at her club.
We set up a Prosecco and Pelvic Floor night at the club. We thought the prosecco might bring people and give a light-hearted feel because pelvic health can be quite an intense and intimate topic to talk about.
We invited a women's health physio to come and talk to people. They were really passionate about female health and sport.
We also had a sports bra workshop and Annett Bevan, who’s known as the postpartum rugby mum.
We aimed to cover all bases of where people could experience pelvic floor issues, including before, during and after pregnancy.
Running this night was really useful. It was great for networking because we had alot of women from different clubs come along and mums attended too. We also reached out to the public and invited some local runners too.
I love the idea of rugby clubs being used as part of the community for women’s health. Putting on workshops can help people make decisions in the future with regards to family planning.
You could use the clubhouse as a space on a Sunday morning when mums are about during minis and juniors training and matches. The mums could attend a talk or workship on pelvic floor or menopause.
